The filmmaker, who has collaborated with Hideo Kojima on several occasions, talks about the “slap in the face” he gave the company in the Silent Hill remark.
This is one of the big questions on the minds of video game fans everywhere: will we see a new Silent Hill soon? In fact, cult video game filmmaker Guillermo del Toro recently hinted at the horror saga.
“You know, one of the franchises I love the art direction of is Silent Hill. I hope we get a new one,” he said at a recent awards ceremony. This fact sparked rumours at the time, with the community wondering if del Toro knew more about this “new one” or if it was just something he felt like talking about.
Now the Mexican director himself has come forward to dispel any doubts, claiming it was just a “slap in the face” to Konami, referring to their past relationship. “It’s just something that doesn’t make sense,” he said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“I just wanted to tickle Konami’s funny bone a little bit” – Guillermo del Toro
Del Toro unsurprisingly refers to the Silent Hills project he worked on with Hideo Kojima, which he finds no convincing explanation for cancelling. “I just wanted to tickle Konami’s funny bone a little bit because I don’t understand [why the project was cancelled]. It was perfect; what we wanted to do was really amazing.”
The series creator himself, Keiichiro Toyama, has also said that he thinks it is highly unlikely that a Silent Hill remake will ever be made.
