The Creator Of It Takes Two Is Against NFT In Games: “I’d Rather Take A Shot In The Knee”

While we don’t know about Josef Fares’ next project, at least we know it won’t involve any NFTs

Hazelight Studios founder and creator of It Takes Two, Josef Fares, shared his opinion on the addition of the infamous NFTs in video games. Known for being a person who gets straight to the point, Fares mentioned that he would rather “get shot in the knee” than include NFTs in his future projects.

It was during a recent interview that Fares discussed this topic. He mentioned that, despite what other companies think, he believes that video games are an art form first and a business second.

“Whatever decision you take in a game, where you have to adjust the design to make the player pay or do something that makes you want him to pay money, that is wrong, if you ask me,” Fares explained. “If you ask a big CEO that runs a company, he would say I’m stupid because companies are about making money. But I would still say no. For me, gaming is art.”

Fares continued to talk about his opinion of games as a service. According to him, these titles are a recurring problem in the industry, as a habit of releasing incomplete games is being created. “We will never do that,” he said. “We already have a problem where people don’t even finish single-player experiences, so why focus on replayability?”

Under this way of thinking, It Takes Two was released as a big surprise this year and was a sales success. The title also had a massive presence at The Game Awards 2021, awarded Best Game of the Year.
