New Tales, created mainly by former French employees of Activision Blizzard, aims to keep up with the pace of video game releases in order to boost international distribution.
If you’ve been following Activision Blizzard’s moves over the past few years, you’ll probably remember the closure of their office in Versailles, France. Koch Media subsequently took over as the developer’s official European distributor, but former Activision Blizzard employees have not been idle. They have now announced the birth of New Tales, a new publisher with which they intend to distribute their titles internationally.
As reported by VGC, New Tales comprises several former Activision Blizzard employees who want to offer their services to other game developers in “fair partnerships.”
According to CEO Cédric Maréchal, “gaming has rarely seen such an exciting time, fuelled by tons of innovation and creativity. However, the frequency of new releases keeps rising rapidly, reinforcing the need for great international publishing.”
New Tales’ plans don’t end there, however, as it is also looking closely at the video game development space: “We are also building our internal production capabilities to develop our own games and IPs. We are looking forward to joining forces with people who share our values and passion!”
The new distributor is undoubtedly clear about its goals. At the same time, Activision Blizzard is going through a period of uncertainty, as its acquisition by Microsoft could run into legal pitfalls along the way. In addition, the company continues to struggle with problems that have surfaced over the past year, to the point where employees have formed a video game union.
