Uncharted: The Lost Legacy Was To Have A Different Protagonist, But Chloe Convinced The Director

Shaun Escayg, the director of the Uncharted spin-off, talked about how he chose the main character.

With the release of the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, players can either relive the adventures of Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer or, conversely, discover two titles that have been remastered for PS5 and PC to improve performance and adapt to the many features of the new DualSense controller.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, director Shaun Escayg talked about how they approached the adventure after completing Uncharted 4, casting other characters in the role of the protagonist. Escayg confessed that Nate’s mentor and partner Sullivan was at one point the chosen character they envisioned as the game’s protagonist, but the director ultimately stuck with Chloe.

Sully was intended to be the main character in the adventure

“I latched on to Chloe, because she was always this intriguing character. So self-centered, so selfish. You just wanted to know what makes a person that way. And then when we combine that with Nadine – a thief and a mercenary – the disaster just unfolds in your mind and you go ‘Oh my gosh, this is such a great conflict,” Escayg explained.

The treasure hunter franchise ended with these two unmissable instalments on PS4, but Escayg himself opened the door to more instalments in the future: “I don’t think anyone at Naughty Dog wants the Uncharted world to go away.” In the meantime, the saga will hit cinemas on February 11, thanks to a film adaptation starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
