CD Projekt RED isn’t that far away from releasing versions of Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series (because so far, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One edition has been backwards supported on the new consoles…).
We were informed by a Twitter account called PlayStation Game Size that the PlayStation 5 version of Cyberpunk 2077 has been added to the PlayStation Network backend (with a new box image, shown below), meaning that the Polish company is not that far away from launching a next-generation version, which CD Projekt desperately needs because (and let’s not mince words, let’s just say it) the launch of the Night City internal-view adventure in late 2020 was a scandal, with performance on consoles reaching shockingly disastrous levels and PCs getting as many bugs as maybe Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness in 2003…
Searching in vain for the image, we don’t get much in the way of hits outside of press writing suggesting that this will be the wallpaper for Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 5 dashboard, which you won’t have to pay to upgrade to if you already have the PlayStation 4 edition. (The Xbox One > Xbox Series or PC update won’t cost anything either. Sony could learn from this, but they’d instead charge $10/EUR for their Director’s Cuts.)
In October, CD Projekt announced that the next-generation versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (dated 2021 at the time) would be delayed. According to the Poles, Cyberpunk 2077(: Samurai Edition?) will receive the new release in the first quarter by the end of March, so a PlayStation Network appearance seems logical. Geralt’s facelift is still to come, and Saber Interactive is doing it (they also put together the seemingly impossible Nintendo Switch port…): the version with DLCs, including Netflix content, will be released in the second quarter of the year (April-June).
So let’s be patient.
