Robert Pattinson Says The Batman Is A “Film Noir Detective Story” With A Shocking Opening

MOVIE NEWS – Batman star Robert Pattinson had no idea that the character was known as one of the world’s greatest detectives.

Robert Pattinson recently called the opening scene of Batman “jarring”, at least compared to all previous iterations of the character. Speaking to GQ, Pattinson further reinforced director Matt Reeves’ ambition to make Batman a detective story, an element that Pattinson was unaware was so often attributed to the character in the pages of DC Comics.

“I watched a rough cut of the movie by myself. And the first shot is so jarring from any other Batman movie that it’s just kind of a totally different pace. It was what [filmmaker] Matt [Reeves] was saying from the first meeting I had with him: ‘I want to do a ’70s noir detective story, like The Conversation.’ And I kind of assumed that meant the mood board or something, the look of it. But from the first shot, it’s, ‘Oh, this actually is a detective story.’ And I feel like an idiot, because I didn’t even know that Batman was ‘the world’s greatest detective’; I hadn’t heard that in my life before-but it really plays. Just ’cause there’s a lot of stuff where he’s in amongst the cops.”

Batman will do a lot more investigating and talking between beating criminals to a pulp

As Batman finally looks to portray a “world’s greatest detective” version of the character. Pattinson revealed that his Batman would be doing a lot more deducting and a lot more talking between beating criminals to a pulp.

“Normally, when you see Batman he arrives and beats people up. But he’s having conversations, and there are emotional scenes between them, which I don’t think have been in any of the other movies.”

The idea that The Batman opens with a “jarring” opening scene shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise and will no doubt help audiences to more easily get into director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson’s seemingly very different take on Bruce Wayne and his alter ego.

An alleged initial reaction to Batman has already planted the seeds that a very different vision of DC’s iconic superhero is in the works. According to reports uncovered by AwardsAce.com’s editor-in-chief, the film could be akin to movies such as Zodiac, Chinatown and even The Silence of the Lambs. The source claims it will be “controversial” and that people will “argue about it endlessly.”

After multiple delays, Batman is scheduled to debut in theatres on March 4, 2022.
