That’s according to Aaron Greenberg, who says developer The Coalition are masters of using the Unreal Engine.
The Matrix Awakens may not have been the big blockbuster Warner Bros. was hoping for, but its premiere served to give the gaming industry a new tech demo through The Matrix Awakens, showing what games could be coming in the coming years. The demo was created by Epic Games using Unreal Engine 5 but was also helped along by The Coalition, which is now working on several unannounced projects.
This was stated by Xbox marketing director Aaron Greenberg in a statement collected on XboxStudio’s Twitter channel, where he didn’t hesitate to define the Vancouver team as true “masters” when it comes to working on the Unreal Engine.
More clues? None so far. We can speculate that among these developments is the sixth numbered Gears of War instalment, for which developers were reportedly recruited in early 2021, but also reportedly for a new IP. And it’s also telling that last summer, a developer from The Coalition posted on his LinkedIn profile that he was working on a new franchise, although this post was deleted shortly afterwards.
This September will mark the third anniversary of Gears 5, a video game for which the North American team has proven that it has a full grip on the reins of the series, as well as the ability to develop big-budget projects.
