MOVIE NEWS – Taika Waititi may have been joking when she said it, but Thor: Love and Thunder is not yet finished, with only four months to go until the premiere.

The case of Thor: Love and Thunder is not unique: it’s a well-known fact that it sometimes seems almost impossible for Marvel films and TV series to be ready on time. The final episode of Loki was not completed until halfway through the season, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seemed that the VFX updates were done when the film was already playing in cinemas. That’s why it’s hard to tell if director Taika Waititi was joking or not when he told Variety that the movie, which is set to open in July, is not yet finished and might not be ready until the day before the premiere.

Of the sequels arriving this year, although Doctor Strange takes on the multiverse, Thor promises to be the craziest film of the year, with Natalie Portman returning to the franchise as Jane Foster, Christian Bale appearing as Gorr, the divine butcher, and of course Chris Hemsworth returning as the storm god wielding Stormbreaker. Waititit was pressed by Variety for information about the film but said he had nothing new to say, especially about when the film would be released.

“There’s nothing, I’ve said everything for the last two years. It’s still not ready. It’s coming out in July, so it will be ready at the end of June. Or about a day before the premiere. That’s how we do it.”

Thor didn’t get off to the best start in the MCU. While his first film was relatively well-received, Thor: The Dark World was consistently noted as one of the worst films in the MCU, but Waititi’s direction of Thor: Ragnarok has redeemed the God of Thunder in a way that no one expected. Now it looks like he’ll continue that trend with the latest instalment of the story. Previously, Waititi himself has said that Thor: Love and Thunder is the craziest film he’s ever been involved with.

In any case, fans are eagerly awaiting his new film, which will also see the Guardians of the Galaxy return ahead of their own adventure next year. Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in cinemas on July 8.
