FromSoftware’s Elden Ring seems to be the best-selling game of 2022 in Europe.
FromSoftware’s new game has been leading the sales for three weeks now in Europe, yet they aren’t settling down for that. Elden Ring is still at the top and it aims to be one of the best releases ever. The data collected in Europe leaves no doubt: Elden Ring is the best launch since the release of Call of Duty: Vanguard in November last year. Besides that, it has also become the biggest new IP since 2016 – the time Ubisoft’s The Division had its successes.
“It’s the best new franchise since The Division”
Horizon: Forbidden West came in second, which has become Sony’s best next-gen release of the month, aside from the Call of Duty franchise. With 41% of the Guerrilla Games title’s sales being on PS4, the figures reinforce Sony’s strategy of continuing to release its games on previous generation machines.
Elden Ring, despite launching at the end of February, became the best-selling title in most of Europe, except for Germany, where Pokémon Legends: Arceus was the biggest seller. Elden Ring sold more on PC than any other platform, with 44% of the PC total, followed by PS5 (27%), Xbox (16%) and finally PS4 (13%).
February’s top sellers in Europe (including both in-store and online sales):
- Elden Ring
- Horizon: Forbidden West
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus
- FIFA 22
- Dying Light 2: Stay Human
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Total War: Warhammer 3
- Mario Party Superstars
- XCOM 2
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
In terms of hardware sales, Nintendo Switch remains comfortably in the top spot and the Xbox version has outsold the PS5 version in Europe. One of the reasons given is that both PS5 and X Series continue to suffer from serious stock problems, something that the S Series, which was one of the most popular options at the beginning of 2022, did not have.
