Polyphony Digital is in trouble: after the patch, the game itself effectively stopped working, so it’s not so good to be online…
Let’s start with patch 1.07. We’ve written before that you have to pay up to eight times more for a car than in Gran Turismo Sport if you use real money (i.e. microtransactions). That was the tip of the iceberg because the fact is that you need a lot of gameplay to buy a lot of expensive cars (while in GT2, you could buy one of the most expensive cars for 2 million credits in half an hour!) Oh, and the most expensive cars are rotated by the Japanese studio, so you can only buy them for a limited time; so they’re trying to encourage us to spend real money (the FOMO effect), made worse by the fact that the cars we already own can’t be sold!
After completing the game, our goal is to get the most expensive Legend cars. To do this, we have to race again and again. The users quickly discovered which races are easy to earn credits in. The problem is that the 1.07 patch seems to have been designed to screw us over. It’s unfortunate because Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 5 costs 80 euros (or 70 dollars). Here’s the list of what the developers have rewritten. The first is the old value. The second is the new value:
- World Touring Car 800: 24 heures du Mans Racing Circuit: 5,000 Cr – 70,000 Cr
- World Touring Car 800: Monza Circuit: 5,000 Cr – 70,000 Cr
- World Rally Challenge: Alsace Village: 50,000 Cr – 30,000 Cr
- Dirt Champions: Fisherman’s Ranch: 65,000 Cr – 30,000 Cr
- Dirt Champions: Sardegna Windmills: 65,000 Cr – 40,000 Cr
- Dirt Champions: Colorado Springs Lake: 65,000 Cr – 40,000 Cr
- GT Cup Gr. 4: HIgh-Speed Ring: 65,000 Cr – 35,000 Cr
- GT Cup Gr. 4: Brands Hatch GP Circuit: 65,000 Cr – 45,000 Cr
- GT Cup Gr. 3: Spa Francorchamps: 75,000 Cr – 50,000 Cr
- GT Cup Gr. 3: Suzuka Circuit: 75,000 Cr – 50,000 Cr
- GT Cup Gr. 3: Autodrome Lago Maggiore: 75,000 Cr – 50,000 Cr
- Clubman Cup Plus: High Speed Ring: 35,000 Cr – 25,000 Cr
- Clubman Cup Plus: Tsukuba Circuit: 35,000 Cr – 25,000 Cr
- Clubman Cup Plus: Goodwood: 35,000 Cr – 12,000 Cr
- American Clubman Cup 700: Special Stage Route X: 30,000 Cr – 15,000 Cr
- American FR Challenge 550: Blue Moon Bay Speedway: 15,000 Cr – 10,000 Cr

- American FR Challenge 550: Willow Springs Raceway: 15,000 Cr – 10,000 Cr
The only problem is that Gran Turismo 7 is now essentially unplayable undergoing maintenance due to a problem found in patch 1.07. It’s just that it’s been more than 24 hours, and at 11 am, one of the responders rightly asked; why does server maintenance prevent offline play for a mainly single-player game?
Kazunori Yamauchi, the father of Gran Turismo, told Eurogamer that the internet connection was necessary to prevent cheating. Well, he should eat what he’s cooked…
