Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical: The Musical RPG Is Back Under A New Name [VIDEO]

Until now, we knew this game as Chorus: An Adventure Musical, but now, Summerfall Studios’ project has a new publisher and a more extensive scope.

The project, a narrative-centric, interactive musical, has Humble Games as its publisher. We can read a lot about it on its Steam page: „In a modern fantasy world where the Greek gods live hidden among us, Grace is granted the power of a Muse to draw others into musical numbers… power that she’ll need to find out the truth behind her predecessor’s death before time runs out. Unravel the mystery of the last Muse through your choices in a beautifully hand-illustrated roleplaying musical. From the mind of David Gaider, lead writer and creator of the Dragon Age setting and one of the most celebrated scribes in games, comes Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. In this song-filled urban fantasy saga, your choices determine how the Fates guide you. Adventure, love, and songs await!

Find your voice: a compelling story of hope, self-discovery, and forging your path. Strong-arm, charm, or negotiate your way through a world of branching songs. Play through original, interactive musical numbers composed by Grammy-nominated musician Austin Wintory (Journey, Banner Saga), Scott Edgar, Steven Gates and Simon Hall of Tripod, and Jess Cerro (Montaigne), where your choices change the songs—and the outcomes.

Find answers: choice and consequence built from the DNA of RPGs.

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a tale of loss and taking charge of your fate to uncover the answers you seek. No two shows are the same! Multiple playthroughs will result in entirely different musical experiences. Be the star and stagehand—close the curtain on the story you want to tell.

Find love? Find friendship, love, or yourself. Delve into an unknown world of mythic Greek gods and monsters; get to know a cast of hilarious, enigmatic, and delightful characters; and find out what’s going on behind the scenes of this saga before it’s too late. If you so choose, stoke the fires of romance and explore relationships with four potential paramours.

A whole new world: a musical for video game lovers and a video game for musical lovers. Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is an irreverent and heartfelt reconception of Greek mythology combining what we love about the contemporary musical theatre (think Buffy: Once More With Feeling, Hadestown, and Wicked) with video games where character and story take centre stage (think Dream Daddy, Life Is Strange, and Dragon Age). David Gaider’s vision is brought to life with performances by the likes of Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part II, World of Warcraft), Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Silent Hill 2, Steven Universe, Resident Evil) and additional cast members from across video games, television, and Broadway, to be revealed soon,” the Steam page wrote.

„We’ve been following the journey of the incredibly talented team at Summerfall Studios for a while now, and we’re thrilled to partner with them to help take Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical over the finish line and put it into the hands of fans all over the globe. Stray Gods is a unique and innovative experience that blends a theatrical musical with a branching RPG narrative, and ultimately personifies exactly the type of games that Humble Games wants to bring into the world,” said Humble Games global publishing vice president Mark Nash in a press release. „Humble immediately understood what we were doing with Stray Gods and knew it was something special. We are excited to partner with them for Stray Gods as we continue to develop this wild and wonderful videogame musical,” Summerfall Studios managing director Liam Esler added.

Creative director David Gaider said, „Thanks to our amazing supporters who backed our Fig campaign in 2019, we have been hard at work. While it’s true that COVID slowed us down significantly, Humble’s assistance over the past year has allowed us to make Stray Gods bigger and better. We have full voice acting, more songs, and longer playtime. We’ve still got a while to go, but soon we’ll unveil everything, and it will be worth the wait.

Regarding the name change, Summerfall Studios executive producer Elie Young explained, „There were many reasons we wanted to change the name. But the primary motivation was that as the project grew past what we’d originally envisioned, we felt it needed a fresh new name that better fits the game’s tone and themes. We realized what we were making was less of an adventure game and much more of a roleplaying game—not an ‘RPG’ in the mainstream sense, but a game truly predicated on roleplaying choices, dialogue, and song. We feel that Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a much better reflection of what we’re making and where we want Summerfall Studios to head in the future.”

Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical has no release date yet. It’s only planned to launch on PC via Steam.
