The producers of the Halo series build a new narrative for the characters

The Halo live action series will have an enormous budget of 90 million dollars

The long-awaited live action series of the legendary Xbox franchise, Halo, will arrive on Paramount+ on 24 March and is already receiving its first reviews, which are mainly positive. The project appears to be hugely ambitious, with a budget of $10 million per episode and a second season already confirmed.

However, the executive producer of the first season, Steven Kane, admitted in an interview with Variety that he hasn’t ever played the game itself or knew much about the history of Halo:

“We never talk about the games. We talk about the characters and the world. So I never felt limited by the fact that it was a video game”.

“I thought it was mind-blowing” – said Pablo Schreiber, whom we’ll see in the role of Master Chief. He is very excited about the role as he finds the richness of the Halo universe fascinating. As we’ve learned, early on in the production process for the series, the production company and 343 Industries decided to base the series mainly on the mythology of the games and form their own narrative path. This series would take place in what they have dubbed the Silver Timeline.

“Initially, we were thinking of doing something that could relate very closely to the game,” explained veteran Microsoft executive Kiki Wolfkill, but they found that “trying to make every word of everything we’d had before wasn’t serving the medium or the creative teams and their need to express their story and build the world through their vision”.

“We’re going to tell the story of a man discovering his own humanity,” Kane promised. We knew a year ago that the Halo series would go its own way, but it looks like the producers have taken this resolution to heart.
