Amazon Games Is Not Ruling Out A Console Release Of Lost Ark, But It’s Up To The Fans

Lost Ark, the PC MMORPG from Smilegate and Amazon Games, has recently arrived in the West after its success in South Korea.

Although Lost Ark has long enjoyed enormous popularity in South Korea, the MMORPG has now surpassed 20 million users worldwide and has reached the second-highest concurrent player peak in Steam history after landing in the West via Amazon Games. The success of Smilegate’s title has so far been limited to PC, the only platform it is currently available on, so VG247 asked Amazon Games about their plans for a possible console version.

Comparisons of this possibility stem from Blizzard’s console adaptation of Diablo III, another franchise that was also made for PC. “If Lost Ark on consoles is something that fans really want, then I think it’s something both parties would consider!” explained Soomin Park, head of franchises at Amazon Games, referring to both them and Smilegate.

Although the answer is somewhat ambiguous, it is encouraging that they have not ruled out an adaptation similar to Blizzard’s game. Amazon’s response to New World was much blunter, dismissing the possibility of the title being released on consoles “in the foreseeable future.”

Amazon Games is publishing the game in the West but does not own the IP.

In the interview, Park recalled the issue of publishing rights, with Smilegate owning the IP, while Amazon Games is the publisher of the game in the West. “This partnership allows us to bring the game to select regions in North America, Europe, Oceania, and South America, but does not allow us to publish the game globally or in all regions where it has not previously been available,” Park said.
