If not for this Razer headset in his room, he might have been hit by a stray bullet.
On Wednesday morning last week in Torrance, California, an eighteen-year-old player, Jonathan Gonzalez, became the protagonist of an unexpected series of events. A Razer Kraken headset may have saved his life because a bullet ricocheted off it after it flew through his bedroom window and bounced off a wall. No one was injured in the incident, but the man admitted to suffering from a headache after the incident.
He posted about it on Reddit under the name Enough_Dance_956: “Hello to everyone who sees this. I’m trying to get a hold of someone at Razer to thank them with all my heart. Wednesday at 10:30 am, a stray bullet went through my window and hit the Razer headphones on top of my head. If it weren’t for the headphones made with good quality, I would’ve been a dead kid at 18. I couldn’t even imagine all the pain my family and friends would’ve been through.” He added that he eventually found the bullet on his bed and handed it to the police.
The problem was that he posted this on April 1, so many people were sceptical. Some even accused him of just trying to get a free headset out of it. In response, Enough_Dance_956 wrote another post, sharing more pictures of the headset, the damage to the window and wall, and the bullet on his bed. A spokesperson for Razer told PCGamer that the company had nothing to do with this (so it wasn’t a PR stunt!), and they didn’t know about it before the Reddit posts.
They confirmed that it was not an April Fools’ Day prank or did not originate from them. They contacted the person to thank him and at the very least provide him with a new headset, as he couldn’t help it being ruined here! Even Min Liang-Tan, the founder and CEO of Razer, wrote to the person on Reddit: “Whoa—that’s crazy. Glad you’re OK!”
This story has a happy end !
