News Of The Month: Max Payne 1 & 2 Remakes In The Works!

Max Payne, the legendary action series written by Sam Lake, gave us one of the most popular characters of the early 2000s.

Remedy and Rockstar have surprised us with an announcement that is as unexpected as it is celebrated: the legendary Max Payne 1 and 2 are back, and in the best possible way: Remedy Entertainment, creators of the original game and hit games like Alan Wake and Control, are developing an ambitious remake, funded by Rockstar.

Remedy Entertainment is promising to put everything they have into the remake, and the fact that they’re working from an AAA-approved budget is proof of that.

The remastered Max Payne 1 and 2 will be powered by Northlight, the same engine used in Control and the upcoming Alan Wake 2, which promises to be “the most beautiful game in the studio’s history.”

Remedy’s relationship with Rockstar Games dates back to the release of the original game: “We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Rockstar Games founder Sam Houser. “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

New remakes of the first two games in the series have been confirmed for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, although it looks like we’ll have to be patient to return to dark New York and the terrible Storm, Nine as the project, is still in the early stages of development. “Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” shared the company’s CEO, Tero Virtala.
