Is The Next-Gen The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt In Development Hell? The Creators Responded!

CD Projekt previously let go of the development of the next-gen The Witcher 3, now they are taking it back. However, they have denied that there is a serious problem.

There is still no release date for the new installment of The Witcher franchise. The studio announced in a statement on Thursday that they are taking development into their own hands. Responding to speculation that the development was facing serious problems, Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt’s senior vice president of business development, said that they were now assessing how much extra work would be needed to complete the new version of the game, but that it was not a fatal problem.

The next-gen update delay was originally announced on CD Projekt’s The Witcher Twitter channel. According to the announcement, the release will be delayed indefinitely, and it was also stated here that development of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game will be continued in-house. However, no release date was given.

“I’ve been looking at headlines that popped up here and there over the internet, and I’ve seen one that really drew my attention, which is, ‘Witcher 3 next-gen delayed indefinitely,’ which sounds like the game is in some sort of development hell. I want to state that this is not the fact. There’s been a lot of insinuation that we’re going to launch in June of next year or something like that. That’s completely not the case.”

“The game is going to be finished in-house. We’re evaluating our time, that requires a bit of investigation — that’s all we’re saying. Nobody is saying the game is delayed in some monumental time gap ahead of us. That’s as much as I can say about Witcher next-gen, but I really want to emphasize that fact.”

It has also been said that bringing the development of The Witcher 3 next-gen in-house will not affect the release of the studio’s next game.

Eventually, nothing concrete can be known about the next-gen release of The Witcher 3, but in light of what we’ve heard so far, we can be confident that rumours of the June 2023 release date are unfounded.
