Sony has dispelled one of the most talked-about doubts of recent days, reassuring PlayStation users with such gift cards.
Ever since PlayStation confirmed the existence of the new PS Plus, doubts have been all over the web. Although the company has managed to answer some of the most pressing questions, it was to be expected that the community would still encounter situations that would require a response from Sony. Such is the case with the latest revelation from gamers: PS Plus and PS Now gift cards cannot be redeemed on PlayStation devices.
Anyone who is already a PS Plus or PS Now member will be able to redeem their codes once the new service launches.
This has come as a surprise to all gamers who have saved codes, but PlayStation has tried to calm the fears with some new information. The redemption of the cards has indeed been disabled, but they will remain valid after the new subscription model launches. As explained on their website – a detail that was pointed out by user Wario64 – this situation varies depending on who wants to subscribe to the service.
“If you’re not a member of the service the card is for, you can redeem it via PS4, PS5, web and the mobile app. […] If you currently have a PS Plus or PS Now subscription, changes to the service prior to its launch will prevent you from redeeming the card code for that service until your existing membership expires or is deactivated after the new PS Plus is launched in your old PS Plus account, whichever comes first. Rest assured that your card code will still be valid.”
This deactivation also affects the ability to renew an existing PS Plus or PS Now membership, so PlayStation says this will have to wait until the new service launches. It’s one of many doubts the company has dispelled in recent days, along with questions about subscription changes, payment deadlines and more.
So we’ll have to wait until the new PS Plus launches in Europe on 22 June if we want to redeem the codes we’ve saved. Until then, we can enjoy the goodies of the current service, which has already confirmed three May games with a football surprise.
