Rebellion Developments has released a new trailer for Sniper Elite 5, showcasing key features of the first-person shooter.

Read below for the latest details from the press release.

The game’s extensive campaign is set in 1944 France and focuses on the events of D-Day. Elite sniper Karl Fairburne uncovers a Nazi plot, Operation Kraken, which could turn the tide of the war in their favour. Karl must work behind enemy lines, in the shadows, and use every skill at his disposal to destroy Operation Kraken and the man behind it, Abelard Möller. The entire campaign is played in two-player online co-operative mode, so players can team up to fight the Axis forces and search for Möller together.

However, human players can also attempt to thwart Karl’s progress, as the new Invasion mode allows an opposing player to join the game as an Axis sniper tasked with hunting down and eliminating Karl. The Invasion player can use Axis soldiers with artificial intelligence to find Karl’s location, creating a high stakes game of cat and mouse. Meanwhile, Karl can use phones placed within the map to gather information about the invader and his location. Invasion mode can be toggled on/off in the game menu.

The multiplayer modes are not limited to the campaign, as a series of tense multiplayer combat modes are also available. Sniper Elite 5’s all-format cross-play multiplayer modes include four core game modes, each with a range of customisation options so players can create their own matches.

The Sniper Elite franchise has always been known for its advanced weapon physics, and this has been taken even further with Sniper Elite 5. The weapons have been meticulously recreated from real-world references to ensure maximum authenticity, with Sniper Elite 5 weapons being crafted in meticulous detail, each with a unique feel and characteristics that will give the player a unique feel and feel.

The series-defining Kill Cam has also been revamped. Clinical kills with pistols and SMGs now trigger the Kill Cam alongside rifle and takedown kills. Bullets will ricochet off bones, causing even more destruction, which the player will see in bloodier detail than ever before.

Weapon customization has also been greatly improved, with players now able to change the stock, magazines, receiver, barrel, scope, iron sights and material of their weapons. This allows each player to create a weapon set that perfectly suits their individual play style and the mission they are undertaking. The customisation options can be unlocked by exploring hidden workbenches within the game’s maps. At these benches, players can customise their equipment, meaning they can adapt their play style and approach on the fly without having to restart the mission.

New traversal mechanics have opened up even more playstyle options. The routes you take can determine whether you’re stealthy and stay in the shadows, or loud and engage enemies head-on. The ability to climb vines, for example, allows Karl to access new areas of the map, providing treacherous routes, great vantage points and access to secret locations, further adding to the replayability of each mission.

Sniper Elite 5 will be released on May 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store. It will also be available through Xbox Game Pass.
