Owlcat Games, the creators of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, are sticking to traditional role-playing, and that’s how Rogue Trader is coming to PC and consoles.
If you’re a fan of classic role-playing games and have spent years painting model figures, then you’re in luck, because Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is for you! The creators of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Pathfinder: Kingmaker, Owlcat Games, are looking to adapt the rich Games Workshop universe into a CRPG format with an old-fashioned role-playing game featuring turn-based combat.
It was one of the big surprises at the Warhammer Skulls 2022 Showcase. “We are very excited to open a new chapter in the Owlcat Games story. Working in a universe as remarkable as Warhammer 40,000 is a great honour, but also a responsibility and challenge for us as a team,” shared Oleg Shpilchevsky, Owlcat Games Director, in a press release.
“The grim darkness of the 41st millennium is a bleak place of unbridled evil, immeasurable sacrifice and large-scale threats and challenges that seamlessly transform into an exciting RPG narrative that gives the player exceptional freedom of choice,” Shpilchevsky noted: “We strive to incorporate into the game everything that fans of the CRPG genre love and expect: fate-turning decisions, non-linear story threads, strong and diverse companions, and addictive and complex gameplay systems. “

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader takes us into a dangerous region of the Koronus Expanse: an uncharted area of the Koronus Expanse on the Empire’s frontiers. A Space Marine, an Aeldari (Eldar) scout or a Battle Sister (of the Adepta Sororitas) are some of the characters we will meet in the game.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader will be released for PC and consoles, although no specific release date or consoles have been confirmed. The PC Founder’s Pack is available now from Owlcat Games’ website and gives access to the alpha and beta versions of the game.
Interestingly, the game is not only a video game adaptation of the Warhammer 40,000 universe but also of a very special earlier product within it. For many years, Fantasy Flight Games held the licence rights to Wh40K to publish paper-based role-playing games in the universe. One of these was Rogue Trader, which, how could it not, was also set in the Koronus Expanse.
This could be a coincidence, of course, but the Koronus Expanse was invented for the FFG role-playing game (which has long been discontinued, by the way), so it didn’t exist in any other form in the Warhammer universe – which makes it quite likely that Owlcat Games’ upcoming game is some sort of adaptation of the classic tabletop role-playing game, or at least a spiritual successor…
