While a second Death Stranding instalment is in the works at Kojima Productions, we may have gotten a glimpse of what the Xbox project around the Japanese team might be.
Hideo Kojima has dabbled in the horror genre before. In 2014, this resulted in P.T., which popped up on the PlayStation Store (and has since sadly disappeared) as a prelude to Silent Hills. Guillermo del Toro also worked on it, and Norman Reedus was part of the project… but Konami had a falling out with the Japanese genius, leaving Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain unfinished and Silent Hills dead.
Kojima then re-established Kojima Productions with the help of Sony, and Death Stranding was born, which del Toro did not work on, but Reedus did. In the meantime, we’ve heard rumours of an Xbox project in the works at the Japanese studio. It could be what Tom Henderson (who has been leaking just about everything lately, and that’s no exaggeration…) was talking about the other day…
So Kojima is supposedly working on a project called Overdose. It could star Margaret Qualley. We may know her from Death Stranding, where she played the character of Mama. Henderson was shown a short teaser video in which Qualley’s character appeared (and she won’t be connected to the Death Stranding universe). She goes through a dark hallway. Then there’s a jump scare, followed by the game’s title popping up. You can see Qualley’s character from a third-person view, but rumour has it that it’s a first-person game.
Kojima recently spoke with Geoff Keighley on Zoom, so the unconfirmed project could show up at Summer Game Fest, and we’ve heard that Microsoft could be the publisher of Overdose so that an announcement could come at the Xbox/Bethesda E3 replacement coverage. We certainly don’t have much to wait for if there’s already a teaser trailer.
However, we’ll mention the usual at the end: none of this is official yet.
