With PlayStation Plus Essential, it’s only natural that the games you’re offered can be added to your games library for free for just one month. But what about games offered at PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium levels?
If you’ve subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium, there will be a Last Chance to Play section when you bring up your catalogue. However, these will only include titles that are close to expiration. There are September and October dates that will be flagged later. The other option is the only one where you can see precisely whether your chosen game has an expiry date, but that sounds awkward.
We have to search ourselves manually. It is a feature that Sony should add as soon as possible (if they offer the NTSC version of games with a higher frame rate in PAL regions, a feature that should have been available at launch, then we’ll have to wait again…). It would be fair if there was some kind of transparency (but that’s also for Microsoft (Xbox) Game Pass!), so that could be planned. Game Pass tells you every two weeks or so what’s leaving in the next period, but that’s not a solution.
Shadow Warrior 3 and Syberia are leaving soon, Red Dead Redemption games and their add-ons are going in September and October, and NBA 2K22 and WRC 10 are also leaving. After the new PlayStation Plus launch in Europe, we also wrote about the sudden departure of Evil Genius 2, the complete disappearance of Y School Heroes: Bustlin’ School Life from the PlayStation Store, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, and 428: Shibuya Scramble. Sony hasn’t yet said whether the changes will vary by region, but the game offerings will vary minimally, so who knows…
And PushSquare has reported that Sony has released new PlayStation Plus cards for the US and UK markets. These cards allow you to top up your PlayStation Store balance, but they also clearly highlight that you can, for example, use the $110 card to pre-pay for PlayStation Plus Extra for a year. There are also $70, $55 and $30 cards. For the UK option, it’s an £84 card (here, that’s what a 12-month PlayStation Plus Extra subscription costs).
With PlayStation Plus cards being phased out by Sony in the past, it was time for something new.
