MOVIE NEWS – The sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will be in cinemas in 2023, so it’s time to fill out the cast, including the beautiful Léa Seydoux.
Last year’s Dune already boasted an all-star cast of A-list actors, even without French star Léa Seydoux. Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem and Dave Bautista are some actors who appeared in the film. It was partly their star power that brought audiences to the theatres, where it became one of the highest-grossing films of 2021.
Dune: Part Two will bring even more talent to the planet Arrakis, as Deadline reports that Léa Seydoux will join the cast as Lady Margot.
Director Denis Villeneuve will begin shooting the highly anticipated sequel this year, with several new actors joining the established cast. Austin Butler will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, heir to the House of Harkonnen, Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter.
Seydoux is best known for her recurring roles in Midnight in Paris and the James Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die, although it was her colossal hit La belle personne (The French Beauty) that brought her national fame back in 2008. Most recently, in David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future, she played Caprice, a former trauma surgeon who removes organs from the performer’s partner.
Dune was a remarkable critical and commercial success, pandemic or not.
The film grossed more than $400 million worldwide, and the $41 million US box office take was the biggest opening for a Warner Bros. hybrid film. Dune was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Achievement in Visual Effects. The blockbuster walked away from the gala with six statuettes, the most for any film at the 94th Academy Awards.
So who is Lady Margot in the Dune universe?
In the Dune novels, Lady Margot Fenring, Léa Seydoux’s character, was the wife of the mentat (“human computer” whose cognitive abilities are pushed to the limit) Count Hasimir Fenring Bene Gesserit. Although superficially under the influence of the House of Corrino, Margot served the Sisters fully. Following the rise of the House of Atreides, the influence of the Bene Gesserit was drastically reduced, and Margot and her husband devoted themselves to serving their own ends.
Early on in the novel, Lady Margot interjects herself into the story when she leaves a critical warning to Paul’s mother about the betrayal that awaits them. Unfortunately, this scene and the character did not make it into the Dune film, but Margot should have an essential role in the second part of the franchise.
Dune: Part Two is scheduled to hit cinemas on 20 October 2023.
