MOVIE NEWS – It’s not the character, but the star of the Solo movie, actor Alden Ehrenreich, who has stepped into the mysterious role of Disney+’s Marvel series Ironheart.
From Star Wars to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: the star of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Alden Ehrenreich, has just joined Disney+’s upcoming Ironheart series! According to Deadline, the actor has been cast in a mysterious role, with no details revealed about his character. He’ll be joining lead actress Dominique Thorne – she plays Riri Williams, a young crime-fighter who serves as Tony Stark’s Iron Man successor. Marvel has not yet officially commented on the casting news.
Chinaka Hodge is developing the Iron Heart series for Disney+, although the character was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Mike Deodato for Marvel Comics. Ehrenreich and Thorne are joined by Anthony Ramos, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana and Lyric Ross. The first three episodes of the six-episode series will be directed by Sam Bailey, with the second half of the season directed by Angela Barnes.
Ehrenreich is perhaps best known for bringing the character, originally played by Harrison Ford, to life as a younger version of Han Solo in the prequel film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The film flopped severely at the box office, and plans to develop a sequel were scrapped, although many Star Wars fans still stand by it today. He also starred in the short-lived Peacock series Brave New World and appeared in films such as Blue Jasmine, Hail, Caesar! and The Yellow Birds. Ehrenreich also appears in Elizabeth Banks’ upcoming thriller Cocaine Bear and Christopher Nolan’s upcoming feature film Oppenheimer.
We previously heard Dominique Thorne would make her MCU debut as Riri Williams in the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Ironheart. Marvel head Kevin Feige said that the idea was to give fans their first chance to meet the character before his own solo series began.
Ironheart’s character has already been the subject of several animated versions in Marvel projects, but Thorne is playing the character’s first live-action incarnation. The Ironheart series is one of several Marvel series in development on Disney+.
The Ironheart will be part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the series has no set premiere date on Disney+.
