One rumour has contradicted another about the franchise, which has been quiet except for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
It started with this simple tweet from ACG, who said, “The next Assassin’s Creed game will be Aztecs”. He had previously been partially correct when it came to Ubisoft’s games, so that you might believe him in part because of that, but he was quickly joined in the ring by another person with a contrary opinion…
Jason Schreier, who now writes for Bloomberg, reacted to it on Reddit by linking to a piece he wrote in February. According to him, the next Assassin’s Creed game will be subtitled Rift and set in Baghdad. After that, however, a live service game jointly developed by Ubisoft Montréal and Ubisoft Quebec, Assassin’s Creed: Infinity, will be next. Ir will have many different games, experiences, or areas (depending on what you call them), he’s heard of the two prominent locations, but it’s a given that neither of them will be Aztec…
Assassin’s Creed: Rift hasn’t even been officially announced yet, and it wants to be a little game in the series that gives Assassin’s Creed: Infinity time to come. It was supposed to be a more extensive add-on to Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (similar in size to Dawn of Ragnarok), but Ubisoft Montréal has broken it down from the base game. The AC universe will reincarnate Loki and Basim. It will be a slightly smaller experience than before, as it will not have the (somewhat tired…) open world that the franchise is used to and will offer a more linear experience.
The French publisher might confirm Assassin’s Creed: Rift during the Ubisoft Forward broadcast scheduled for September 10, as the company has not said anything officially about it yet. Interestingly, there are already rumours that the game could be in stores either in late 2022 or early 2023. It’s almost certain that this will be a cross-gen title, so in addition to PC, it will also be coming to PlayStation 5/Xbox Series and PlayStation 4/Xbox One duo. Of course, this is not yet official.
