GameInformer Talked to Glen Schofield About the Origins of Callisto Protocol, an Exclusive Gameplay Was Revealed [VIDEO]

One of the most anticipated titles of 2022, The Callisto Protocol promises to be even more horroristic than any Dead Space that has been released so far. Game Informer sat down with Striking Distance Studios founder and CEO Glen Schofield to discuss their upcoming horror title.

Undoubtedly, The Callisto Protocol has emerged as one of the year’s most anticipated titles. It is a big deal not only because it’s looking like a very busy end to the year from a video game perspective but also because it’s a brand new IP. Of course, the developers behind it are no newcomers, led by Glen Schofield, the man behind the Dead Space series. In a video interview with GameInformer, he tells the story of the making of The Callisto Protocol, and keen-eyed fans will be able to spot some brand new footage in the video.

After his time at Activision, Schofield took a short break, going out into the Arizona desert to regularly recharge, sketch and brainstorm for his next game. The inspiration came, first from the moon of Jupiter, Callisto, and then from prison because there is no place more terrifying than such an institution.

Then more and more ideas came up. Schofield consulted with his writers and set up his own studio, Striking Distance, to get the work started as soon as possible. Of course, writing the story, locations, characters, and dialogue took nearly a year and a half. Although Schofield had envisioned the ending well in advance, it needed to be improved to fit the game perfectly.

In this narrative-driven third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future, the player assumes the role of Jacob Lee – a victim of fate who has been cast into the Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security penitentiary on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. When the prisoners begin to transform into monstrous creatures, the prison descends into chaos.

In order to survive, Jacob must fight his way to safety to escape the Black Iron Prison while discovering the dark and disturbing secrets that lie beneath Callisto’s surface. Using a unique blend of shooting and close combat, Jacob must adapt his tactics to combat the rapidly evolving creatures while unlocking new weapons, equipment and abilities to escape the growing threat and escape the horrors of Jupiter’s dead moon.

How thrilling and engaging the game will be revealed in a few months, on December 2, 2022, when The Callisto Protocol arrives on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X platforms.

By the way, Striking Distance is really enthusiastic; they even showed the collector’s edition statue of the game, which was created by the team itself. There you go!
