Sony’s PlayStation division wants to continue expanding and to do so; it hires a lawyer with expertise in antitrust policy. Gregory McCurdy held the position of Senior Director of Competition and Antitrust.
It’s no secret that Sony wants to expand further, which is why it faces the FTC. According to the latest information compiled by Bloomberg Law, Sony has hired Gregory McCurdy, an experienced antitrust attorney.
Bloomberg reports that he stepped into Sony’s new senior director of competition and regulatory affairs just as PlayStation closed its $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie, which the FTC was investigating for antitrust violations.
McCurdy spent over 15 years as Microsoft’s senior litigation and policy attorney. McCurdy himself is the LinkedIn on his profile he announced that he had left his old company:
“I am delighted to join SONY Interactive Entertainment as the Senior Director of Competition and Regulatory Affairs. The world of video games is fascinating, and this will be a great new adventure as I know a bit about it from my time at Microsoft when the Xbox was launched to compete with the PlayStation.”
The job description describes McCurdy’s new position as “principal adviser on competition regulation”. Sony already made it clear a few months ago that they will continue to buy more studios after the acquisition of Bungie, which is confirmed by the details of the job offer.
