Sylvester Stallone, The Retired Superhero – Here’s The Samaritan Trailer! [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Sylvester Stallone makes a big splash in the first trailer for Samaritan, the film that sees the legend once again breaking into the superhero genre.

In the first trailer for Samaritan, action movie superstar and Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone becomes a superhero. In the footage, released courtesy of the official Prime Video YouTube channel, Stallone plays an elderly superhero thought to be dead, followed by a young boy who wonders why the hero known as Samaritan has abandoned his great power and great responsibility.

In the film, Javon Walton plays Sam Cleary, a young boy who goes in search of a mythical superhero who was thought to have died years ago after an epic battle with his arch-enemy. When Sam discovers that the hero is living under the radar as a garbage collector named Joe Smith, Sam tries to convince him to return to the fight and save the world. Meanwhile, Joe is targeted by a notorious gang…

The first footage from Samaritan will delight Stallone fans, with the still-vivacious 76-year-old action star playing the perfect ageing superhero.

Stallone runs through walls, mowing down bad guys, all the while trying to live a quiet, unassuming life. While the family-friendly trailer doesn’t show the film entirely, there are certainly hints of brutal violence in the footage.

Samaritan is a dark, new take on superhero movies, with Sylvester Stallone starring as Joe Smith, aka Samaritan, alongside Euphoria and The Umbrella Academy star Javon Walton as Sam Cleary. Supporting roles include Martin Starr, Moisés Arias, Dascha Polanco, Natacha Karam, as well as Jared Odrick, Michael Aaron Milligan, Deacon Randle and Game of Thrones actor Pilou Asbæk as the gang leader Cyrus.

Though Stallone has previously appeared in the superhero-slash-fantasy genre, with cameo roles in films such as Judge Dredd, Suicide Squad and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Samaritan seems tailor-made for the action legend.

In fact, director Julius Avery has explained why Samaritan is the perfect vehicle for Stallone and his action hero modus operandi.

Samaritan is scheduled to hit theatres on August 26, 2022, via United Artists Releasing and Amazon Studios’ Prime Video streaming channel.
