Midnight Society insists that Deadrop supporters receive a new playable version every six weeks.
The streamer’s studio, Midnight Society, has released more details about the game, previously codenamed Project Moon. Set in “2020.b”, Deadrop sees self-governing megastructures, the Refiner States, convert toxic atmospheric pollution into a valuable, addictive substance called space dust. The description adds, “Once Government-owned facilities, the lucrative ‘DUST’ trade has now led to the forced occupation of the REFINER STATES by competing factions fighting for control of the towers and the resources inside.”
We are probably members of one of those factions. Two factions were mentioned (Skins, Syns), but the Cleaners currently manage the Refiner States’ tower blocks, so that could be the PvPvE element. So the gameplay of the vertical escape shooter has become vertical for this reason; the goal is to get to the top and escape the location with the loot you’ve acquired, so it’s pretty much like Escape From Tarkov, but with a minor cyberpunk facelift…
Deadrop’s funding was based on selling the $50 Founders Access Pass, which has been bought by ten thousand people so far. It gives players a new, playable version of the game in early development every six weeks. The latest build is currently Snapshot CL 1859, and in it, you can explore your hideout and use your assault rifle on three shooting ranges. The studio explains, “The focus of this build was to establish the foundation for core player movement, weapon systems, and to introduce an environment in which to test the first weapon. In addition, Snapshot_CL 1859 marks the beginning of authentication, profile, account, dedicated server support, and code to support future Deadrop multiplayer functionality.”
It should be mentioned here that the overall picture is spoiled by the fact that with the purchase of the Founders Access Pass, we get a procedurally generated NFT, which would be our in-game avatar, our character. So, unfortunately, Deadrop is following the trend.
