MOVIE NEWS – Bella Ramsey, Ellie from the HBO series The Last of Us, says the show “honours the game”.
Bella Ramsey, star of HBO’s upcoming series The Last of Us, knows that many people are worried about the forthcoming series – but she insists that everyone will love it because she says it “honours the game.” Live-action adaptations of video games are not always a smash hit – the latest example being Resident Evil – but Ramsey (who is clearly not biased) says this adaptation should be well received.
“I think people are going to love [the show],” the young actress told SheKnows.
“I know there were people worried about it, of course. When something is so precious to you as a viewer – as a gamer – of course, you’re going to be worried about the adaptation. But honestly, I think people are going to love it. It very much follows the emotional beats of the game, and it’s very respectful of the game and honours the game.”
That said, Ramsey was at pains to add that this is not a complete remake of The Last of Us: “It explores different avenues that weren’t explored so much in the game. I do think people are going to love it. I hope they do. It was so much fun to make, such an experience. I hope that [audiences] feel that experience too when they come on the adventure with us.”
Filming for the TV series is now complete and will be in cinemas next year. In the meantime, we’ll be kept busy with the PS5 remake, The Last of Us: Part I, which Naughty Dog has stressed is not a money-spinner.
