CD Projekt RED is set to expand the Night City experience in Cyberpunk 2077 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Stadia.
As you might have guessed, Cyberpunk 2077 and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners are the focus of CD Projekt RED’s live programming today. There were new trailers and other news about the Netflix animated series, but the developer also had the opportunity to close the event on a high note: it also unveiled the first expansion for the action-shooter RPG, Phantom Liberty.
Beyond a brief description shared by CD Projekt RED, we don’t have many details about the content: “Get ready for Phantom Liberty – the spy thriller expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, set in an all-new district of Night City. Coming in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia.”
Therefore, the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion will not be released for PS4 and Xbox One.
Not surprisingly, CD Projekt RED’s broadcast was accompanied by a trailer and a brief appearance by Keanu Reeves, who plays Johnny Silverhand in the title. Remarkably, CD Projekt RED describes this expansion as moving away from the old-gen platforms (PS4 and Xbox One) and focusing exclusively on next-gen consoles and PC and Google’s streaming gaming platform.
New developments in Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt RED’s live stream didn’t just focus on showcasing Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, as the developers also detailed the latest developments in the base game. According to information shared in the webcast, players can enjoy the Edgerunners update today.
What does this patch contain? As you might have guessed, CD Projekt RED wanted to tie the game to its anime by adding accessories for V, which will be seen through the jacket worn by the series’ main character David Martinez and a rifle used by another character. In addition, the update includes new settings for Photo Mode, add-ons for Ripperdoc, the ability to store up to 6 items of clothing in the wardrobe, a cross-progression system, and even a cute horse racing mini-game called “Race with Sardinilla” that will be available on mobile through digital retailers.
CD Projekt RED says it is still working on the RPG.
But that’s not the end of the surprises, as the CD Projekt RED team says they are still working on the cyberpunk RPG and will release future updates. In this regard, the game’s creators have already confirmed that they will soon be completely overhauling the police system and are also planning a tighter vehicle-to-vehicle combat system. According to what was said in the live stream, these improvements will be included in future updates, but this latest development is terrible news for old-gen users.
Like the Phantom Liberty expansion, which will only be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series and Stadia, it looks like the Edgerunners update will be the last one to come to PS4 and Xbox One. Therefore, future patches to improve police behaviour and violent car crashes are unlikely to appear for the older generation.
