PlayStation 5 Wins August In North America

According to a report by NPD, Sony’s console duo (as the PlayStation 5 has two variants) beat Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s respective product family (as the Xbox Series has two models and the Nintendo Switch has three).

The gaming industry’s performance in August 2022 was 5% worse year-on-year. Still, hardware sales were up 14% as the availability of 2020 consoles improved (and in the US, Sony has not dared to raise the price of the PlayStation 5, while it has done so virtually everywhere else!). Gamers spent $4.1 billion on games, extra content and hardware.

PlayStation 5 also took August in terms of units sold and revenue in dollars, after Nintendo Switch led the way for a long time with minor interruptions (and we remain confident that it will overtake PlayStation 4 in total sales by the end of 2022). In terms of games, August was all about US football, with Madden NFL 23, but to such an extent that Electronic Arts’ sports game, which has been re-released with minimal changes, continues to siphon money out of its community with the Ultime Team gambling, reached a top 10 spot in the 2022 overall list with, while the Saints Row reboot, which came in at number 2 in August, did not.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
