It seems that fans of a particular free PS Plus horror game may not get the free update coming to PlayStation 5…
PS Plus fans of Man of Medan and Little Hope from The Dark Pictures Anthology series were rightly delighted when it was announced that a free update would be coming to the PlayStation 5 version of the games. However, not everyone who has played the games is eligible for this free update.
Initially, Man of Medan was available for free on PlayStation Store via PS Plus Essential on PlayStation 4 in July.
For those who accessed the game this way on PS Plus, the update to PlayStation 5 was not made available. Instead, the enhanced version is only accessible to those who have already purchased the game. For PlayStation 5 purchasers, the enhanced version will be available for purchase in the store.
There is good news for PlayStation 4 owners of the free version of Man of Medan. A new content update released this week will be available for all versions of the game, including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Some of the most significant new features in the update include an improved user interface, increased walking speed to keep things moving, and even a new ending chapter called “Flooded” for Man of Medan.
Supermassive Games, makers of The Dark Pictures Anthology, announced that both games had been released as native titles for the current console generation.
However, the release of the new versions didn’t go smoothly before the recent PS Plus fiasco. Early on Thursday morning, the developer announced that there was a problem with the PC release of both games, which at the time of writing was being fixed, and Man of Medan and Little Hope have reverted back to their original versions.
Man of Medan was released as the first edition of The Dark Pictures Anthology on August 30, 2019, and Little Hope was released a year later on October 30, 2019. The first current-generation console release came in 2021 with House of Ashes, so the first two games now bring the entire series to PlayStation 5. The next in the series will be The Devil in Me, due out in November 2022, with several more in the pipeline.
The release of the first two games was met with a lot of interest, especially for those who skipped the previous generation and went straight to PlayStation 5. The Devil in Me marks the conclusion of the first season of The Dark Pictures anthology, and thanks to the popularity of the games, players can expect a bigger budget for the second season, with more big-name actors.
