MOVIE NEWS – Scream 6, which also features Melissa Barrera and several returning actors, will be in cinemas next year.
Scream 2022 star Melissa Barrera has revealed a few details about the setting and plot of the upcoming slasher sequel, Scream 6. Speaking to the 20 Questions On Deadline podcast, Barrera said that the film would pick up shortly after the events of Scream 5, which means that he and the rest of the team didn’t get much rest after Ghostface’s latest gruesome appearance.
“No, it’s not [a big time jump] at all. It’s almost directly after the last one. Basically, the amount of time that has passed between one movie and the other is the amount of time that has passed in Scream time.”
So now we know the timeline and location of Scream 6, as it’s been revealed that the film will take the plot from Woodsboro, California, to New York. Previous news reports have shown that Scream 6 will see Ghostface move to Manhattan, and the location change follows what has already been revealed about the horror film.
In Scream 6, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding leave Woodsboro behind after their experiences with the infamous slaughterhouse and head to what they hope will be greener, less murderous pastures in the Big Apple. Unfortunately, however, this killer is not so easy to get rid of…
Barrera, who reprises her role as Sam Carpenter, Billy Loomis’ illegitimate daughter, in Scream 6, also gave a taste of the horrors that await the gang in New York.
“You also see how, in a city like New York City, everyone is kind of doing their own thing and someone is screaming for help, and no one will come to their help. No one comes to help them, you know, like, everyone’s kind of like, “I’m not getting into that.” So it’s mortifying, because you’re chased by Ghostface, but you also see humanity and how that reacts in a situation like that. Anyway, I think I’ve already probably said too much.”
The film is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, with a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, and stars Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere and Dermot Mulroney, and is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 31 March 2023.
