Christophe Gans, director of the first Silent Hill film, says several games are in development. Despite the rumors of Silent Hill projects in recent years, this is one source fans should keep an eye on.
As the saying goes, where there’s smoke, there’s fire, as it was recently confirmed in a Silent Hill game. Although this mysterious new Silent Hill game has been kept under wraps in terms of any kind of teasing or announcement, it does hint at an upcoming Silent Hill release, giving fans of the franchise reason to be excited. It was first suspected to be a mobile game, but according to Gemantsu, it’s actually a console game called Silent Hill: The Short Message, which is said to be published by Uniana. Fans will want to keep their eyes and ears open for anything official in the coming months, especially if recent statements from the director of the first Silent Hill movie are anything to go by.
In the French interview with Christophe Gans, the director spoke about not only one but also several Silent Hill projects under development. The director has previously teased another Silent Hill movie he’s working on, and is said to be working with the Silent Hill team through it. This is certainly heavy fuel to the fire that is the ongoing Silent Hill rumor mill, which consists of several Silent Hill projects in development, including not only the recently rated game, but also the classic Silent Hill games returning to Steam.
“I’m working with the Silent team, the original creators at Konami, several games are in development as we speak, several teams are working on it, with a large line of games, they’re reviving the franchise. I think they were very impressed with Resident Evil the success of remakes that are obviously exceptional games.”
One of the other rumors that has been circulating is a remake of Silent Hill 2, which is said to be made by Bloober Team, with images of what appears to be a concept build leaked online. Silent Hill fans should take these rumors with a grain of salt, though it’s likely that at least one Silent Hill project is in the works. The Game Awards could be one of the interesting areas, as it would be the likely venue if it appeared in some form before the end of 2022.
There are arguments for and against a Silent Hill revival, especially considering Konami’s track record. However, with the recent critical and financial success of Capcom’s Resident Evil remakes, it’s understandable why Konami would want to dive back into video games, and under a talented development team that understands and respects the franchise, it might not be such a bad idea.
