Bayonetta 3 Trailer Shows the Multiverse and Alternative Bayonettas [VIDEO]

The newest trailer for Bayonetta 3 focuses on the Multiverse, showing the different alternate Bayonettas the player can encounter.

The new story-focused trailer for Bayonetta 3 focuses on the game’s multiverse, featuring alternate versions of Bayonetta herself. Nintendo and PlatinumGames have shown off a lot of the title as the game’s release is on the horizon. These include new details such as Bayonetta’s re-personalisation and the witch Umbra’s game mechanics. Now that the game is only weeks away, this latest trailer reveals more details about the build-up to the multiverse.

There’s been a lot of speculation about the multiverse of Bayonetta 3 since its re-release last year, with details and trailers this year showing off more Bayonetta appearances. This latest trailer seems to confirm that theory, as multiple versions of the umbra witch are seen in the trailer, and the video’s title even includes the words “Bayonettes everywhere?!”.

This Bayonetta 3 trailer begins on a sad note, where a Bayonetta who bears a resemblance to the first Bayonetta’s appearance is killed by a mysterious figure, smashing her into red crystals while telling young Viola to leave. This mysterious figure then attacks the present-day Bayonetta, where he notes that the creature is otherworldly. Various characters, including Jeanne and Viola mention the name of this figure that is probably known as the Singularity.

The trailer then goes wild with the versions shown, where one Bayonetta is wearing a striking white coat with pink hair, and she has bonded with a spider demon called Phantasmaraneae. This spider design is transplanted into the gameplay of Bayonetta 3, where Masquerade’s transformation allows him to swing and attack with his eight legs using a web-like cord. Other variants to appear include a Bayonetta who appears to be going the way of the Lumen Sage, with angelic summons, and a sleek blonde Bayonetta in a fancy blue hat and mask. This trailer seems to set them up as potential bosses for the player to contend with.

Bayonetta isn’t the only Umbra witch to get the spotlight in this trailer, as newcomer Viola also gets some attention. This includes her goal to chase the Singularity into the Alphaverse and mention of a mysterious item called Chaos Gears that could possibly stop her. The trailer also shows some snippets of bosses and maps in the game, such as crossing a fire-filled lava landscape with Luka. At the end of the trailer, there’s even a segment featuring Jeanne as a playable character, where her gameplay is more of a 2D sidescroller with stealth mechanics.

Bayonetta 3 will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2022.
