“I light a candle every day. I’d love to jump back into that habit,” Aarons said via ComingSoon in 2021 before officially signing on for the sequel, teasing a quality sequel coming courtesy of New Line and Warner Bros. “I love that movie, that character and the whole cast. I light a candle every day. I need to see what they’ve written, you know, I hope it reveals more of the depth of the demon. I think the demon came from the pits of hell.”
He added: “We’ll see, whatever it is. This is Warner Brothers. It’s going to be phenomenal. It’s New Line Cinema. Whatever they do, it’s going to be phenomenal. They really know how to make a movie.”
The Nun was a big hit
The Nun, released in 2018, was directed by Corin Hardy and written by Gary Dauberman. The film serves as a spinoff of The Conjuring 2, which first introduced Bonnie Aarons as Valak. Starring Taissa Farmiga, Demian Bichir and Jonas Bloquet, the film is set in Romania in the early 1950s, where a Roman Catholic priest and a nun meet Valak and discover dark secrets.
With a rather modest budget of $22 million, The Nun was a huge box office hit for Warner Bros., grossing over $365 million worldwide, making it an incredible success and one of the highest grossing films in the Enchanted series. Even with the harsh reviews, it was clear to the studio that a sequel would be profitable, and it was no surprise when they announced The Nun 2.
The Nun 2 will hit cinemas on 8 September 2023.
