Konami has confirmed that a brand new game in the Silent Hill franchise is in the works, the strangely titled Silent Hill F.
Konami closed its Silent Hill Transmission event with the unveiling of a brand new Silent Hill game, Silent Hill F. The Silent Hill Transmission event officially announced long-rumoured projects in development, including the PS5-exclusive Silent Hill 2 remake and this all-new game.
Silent Hill F was unveiled with a teaser trailer that gave fans a general idea of the game’s atmosphere.
It shows a woman running through a hall, tormented by plant-like tendrils emerging from the walls. The game is set in 1960s Japan, contrasting to previous games in the Silent Hill series. Most of those were placed in the United States. Based on the trailer, it looks like body horror will also feature in the game, although fans have yet to learn much about the project and what exactly it will contain.
We already know that Silent Hill F is being developed by NeoBards Entertainment, the same studio behind Resident Evil Re:Verse. And the story is written by Japanese author Ryukishi07. However, the trailer is only cinematic. It’s hard to say anything about the gameplay at the time of writing.
The fact that the Resident Evil Re:Verse studio is working on Silent Hill F may be worrying for some franchise fans.
Resident Evil fans may recall that the Resident Evil Re:Verse multiplayer experience was initially intended to be released alongside Resident Evil Village last year. Re:Verse is now expected to be released on October 28 alongside the game’s Winters’ Expansion, but that remains to be seen.
Some may worry that Konami will outsource the development of new Silent Hill game projects, regardless of who is involved. All the new Silent Hill projects announced at the Silent Hill Transmission event are being handled by other studios. For example, the remake of Silent Hill 2 is being made by Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team. While the just-announced Silent Hill: Townfall is being made by No Code.
But fans should not rush to judgement. At the time of writing, nothing is known about Silent Hill F other than the title and developer. Perhaps it is best to hold back until the actual gameplay is revealed. For now, the game seems to live up to the eerie atmosphere of Silent Hill. Presumably, it takes the series in an interesting new direction, but fans will have to wait to find out more.
