TECH NEWS – Celebrities don’t like Elon Musk’s latest revenue idea for Twitter. The billionaire recently suggested that users should pay $20 a month to become verified users using a blue tick.
“Fuck that, they should pay me” tweeted horror legend Stephen King, adding that he disagreed with the entire premise of the plan, which effectively requires people with significant followings to pay for the opportunity , to generate content for the website.
$20 a month to keep my blue check? Fuck that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.

Responding to the outcry, Musk defended the idea, then suggested lowering the price to $8: “We have to pay the bills somehow! Twitter can’t rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?” he asked.

He later clarified that the additions would include prioritizing replies, mentions and searches, as well as half the amount of ads and the ability to post long videos and audio. “This is the only way to defeat bots and trolls,” Musk tweeted.
I will explain the rationale in longer form before this is implemented. It is the only way to defeat the bots & trolls.

Users pointed out that expanding the platform’s verification system would only bring the site $15 million a year, which would be worth about 30 hours of the platform’s annual ad revenue.
