Lionsgate Wants An AAA John Wick Game!

While there has been a small indie attempt at licensing (John Wick Hex was created by Mike Bithell’s studio Bithell Games and released on all consoles at the time between 2019-2020, in addition to PC/Mac; no current-gen porta), one of Hollywood’s giants would like more.

Keanu Reeves may not only be known for Cyberpunk 2077, as he lent his look, voice and moves to Johnny Silverhand in CD Projekt RED’s game (and chances are he’ll do the same in the Phantom Liberty expansion), but he’s also known for the John Wick trilogy. In the three action movies, the story is that a retired assassin is out to get revenge on everyone, and he does it in a sophisticated style. A fourth film is on the way and will be in cinemas in March.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in his quarterly report to investors that they are looking to build on the success of the films with a significant video game adaptation: “I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but we believe there is a big AAA game to be made out of John Wick. We have been fielding proposals. We certainly are interested in moving that forward, but I don’t want to say anything more about that now,” Feltheimer said.

In addition to the fourth John Wick film, a spin-off starring Ana de Armas is also in the works. That will start filming next week and look out for a prequel series called The Continental on Amazon Prime Video. So Lionsgate is leaning on the John Wick IP, and why not if it’s been successful so far? What is certain is that many of the people behind the films are game fans. Director Chad Stahelski is currently helming the film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, while the franchise’s writer is said to have been working on bringing Just Cause to the big screen…

It’s too early to say when John Wick will come to consoles and PC, as we don’t even know who will develop the game. Lionsgate will need a suitable partner for that.
