MOVIE NEWS – James Bond franchise producer Micheal G. Wilson has spoken about why a younger star won’t be the actor to replace Daniel Craig in the next 007 role.
Film producer and James Bond franchise caretaker Michael G. Wilson revealed that a younger actor would not fill the legendary role of cinema’s most iconic spy for the foreseeable future. He told this and other details about the casting process for the next 007 at the franchise’s celebration event.
The James Bond franchise is based on the character from Ian Fleming’s books and tells the story of the events surrounding the iconic secret agent, code-named 007, the iconic master spy of Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
The franchise has spawned 27 films and a host of leading actors in six decades. New standards have been set in stories of intrigue, espionage and high-stakes action each time. Daniel Craig, the latest incarnation of the popular character, recently passed away in a big way. So the role of James Bond remains unfilled for the time being.
Deadline reported on the ‘In Conversation’ event at the British Film Institute in London. Wilson discussed the possibility of reprising the role at the event, held to celebrate 60 years of the James Bond franchise. After Craig waved goodbye as James Bond in No Time to Die. “We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work,” Wilson said. “Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”
Wilson also revealed some of the selection processes for the new Bond. He finally let fans in on the kind of actor they’re deciding on, who might have the charm and aura needed to play James Bond. “We always use the same scene,” the producer revealed. The scene is a highlight from the 1963 film From Russia With Love. It’s a fan favourite, featuring arguably the most brutal fight scene in the James Bond franchise, and a real test of the actor’s skills.
Many are excited about the next James Bond project as Craig has successfully attracted a new generation of fans.
But Bond fans will have to wait a long time before a new actor is chosen and the next 007 project begins. The producers have revealed that they will not be looking for a new Bond until they agree on the next actor in the famous line of iconic villains. Avoiding rushing the choice is critical. After all, if the creative team find a new 007, they expect him to commit to the James Bond role for at least the next decade.
