James Bond Turns 60 And Changes Streaming Channel, and Hungarians Are The Worst Off!

MOVIE NEWS – HBO Max has been showing all the James Bond movies in full HD for quite some time, but those Hungarian viewers who haven’t seen it so far have already missed it. We explain why…

Yesterday, October 6th, the James Bond franchise turned 60 years old, as Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as the legendary agent 007, was released in theaters on October 6th, 1962. Due to the sixtieth anniversary, the entire James Bond offering was available on HBO Max for quite some time from the beginning of May, but it has now been transferred to Amazon Prime. And why is this a big annoyance for us Hungarians? Obviously, those who don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime don’t care anyway, but even Hungarian subscribers can’t enjoy the adventures of James Bond, because films based on Ian Fleming’s novels are only available in the USA, the UK and a few “key territories” country – as described by Variety we can read. Since we are not among the “key territories”, we were left out of the big Amazon birthday party. I experienced this myself when I searched for the very first James Bond film, Dr. No, in the Amazon Prime offer, and this image greeted me:

It is a particular annoyance that while we could only watch the 007 movies in full HD on HBO Max, they can be seen in UHD (4K) on Amazon Prime – we just wish they were.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to “trick” with VPN either, because unlike other streaming providers (HBO, Disney Plus, Netflix, etc.), the strict Amazon Prime detects the VPN immediately and, even if we are subscribers, does not allow us to watch territory-bound movies.

Those who missed the movies until now have already missed out – we can only hope that the situation will change, since we are talking about real movie classics.

Finally, there is some joy in my heart for 007 fans, that the documentary “The Sound of 007”, which was also made on the occasion of the 60th anniversary and is about the music of the James Bond films, can already be watched here on Amazon Prime – but this too with subtitles only.
