MOVIE NEWS – The Uncharted rollercoaster is coming to PortAventura World in Spain, if all is true, as early as 2023.
The Uncharted video game series is famous for a reason. The series, known for taking fans on twisty, action-packed adventures, is now set to become a rollercoaster.
Sony Pictures has announced a deal with Spain’s largest theme park, PortAventura World, to create the first roller coaster based on the franchise.
This roller coaster is based explicitly on the film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
The roller coaster, expected to open in the first half of 2023, will draw inspiration from the film’s “globetrotting adventures.” According to the theme park company, riders can expect an “exciting and immersive experience in search of one of the world’s greatest treasures”. The project will be a so-called “dark ride”, or indoor roller coaster.
The roller coaster, which has not yet been given a name, will be located in the Far West zone of PortAventura World. General manager David Garcia said the ride would use “state-of-the-art” technology.
Sony Pictures boss Jeffrey Godsick said the attraction would allow visitors to “step into Nate and Sully’s shoes and go on their own white-knuckle, treasure-hunting race.”
The roller coaster, almost 700 metres long, will reach a height of 12 metres in the space of 4,800 square metres and 16 metres high. There will be a “surprise” show before the ride begins. The ride, costing €25 million ($26 million), is being built by Intamin Amusement Rides and Sally Corporation.
No pictures of the Uncharted roller coaster have been released yet.
The Uncharted movie has grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office, making it the fourth highest-grossing video game movie. Only Rampage, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Warcraft are ahead of it.
There are ideas for a sequel to the Uncharted movie, but Sony has not officially announced it. As for the video game series, developer Naughty Dog remains cryptic about its plans.
