The Callisto Protocol: Received Day One Patch for PC Stuttering Issues

Striking Distance Studios releases a day-one patch for The Callisto Protocol that fixes the game’s stuttering issues on PC.

The developers of The Callisto Protocol have revealed the day one patch for the brand-new title. The update promises to fix the stuttering issues many players have been experiencing when trying to play the title on PC. Although the highly anticipated survival horror title only launched today, The Callisto Protocol has already been plagued with widespread reports of performance issues on the platform.

From new developer Striking Distance Studios, The Callisto Protocol is a third-person survival horror title in which players assume the role of Jacob Lee, an inmate of the Black Iron prison on the moon Callisto. The game shares many similar elements with Dead Space, mainly because The Callisto Protocol director Glen Schofield co-created Dead Space, although the studio has persisted in trying to differentiate the two games’ feel.

Just a few hours after the game’s release, The Callisto Protocol’s official Twitter account announced that the first day’s patch for the game’s PC version would be released in a few hours. According to reports from players on the platform, the game suffers from stuttering performance, frequent stuttering and poor optimization. Another common complaint about the new title is the game’s overall length, with many players completing the story in roughly seven hours. This and that led to The Callisto Protocol receiving a “mostly negative” rating on Steam and over 4,000 reviews at the time of writing.

A tweet from The Callisto Protocol also reveals that more updates are on the way, although it remains unclear exactly what those updates will include. Although the performance issues seem to be mostly on PC, there are also performance issues on the console version. One of the top comments in the aforementioned Steam reviews claims that the PS5 version of the game also suffers from stuttering issues. The player’s claim is especially surprising given that The Callisto Protocol offers a 60FPS performance mode on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Despite the game’s initial performance issues and fairly short runtime, The Callisto Protocol is also praised for other aspects. Many early reviews praise the game’s incredibly creepy feel, varied, visceral combat, and graphics. Our test will be out soon.
