TECH NEWS – The Pi 5 won’t be released in 2023, but not because the manufacturer is a failure.
Eben Upton, CEO of the company behind the Raspberry Pi devices, gave an interview to ExplainingComputers, which we’ve embedded below. In it, Upton explained that due to supply pressures, they won’t be launching the Raspberry Pi 5 next year (as it was previously scheduled to come out in the second half of 2023), but in return, they won’t be short of stock, so anyone who wants to buy a Pi 4 will easily find one. The Raspberry Pi 5 will be more powerful than the current model in several ways.
A faster processor and Wi-Fi, more RAM, that sort of thing is always good in a new model, but we’ll see what the little package has in store, as these microcomputers aren’t that huge of a device. The interest in them is not coming from the bigger companies. Upton stressed that behind the large orders are smaller companies that use the Pi or use them as the basis for their products. They are buying a few hundred devices at a time to meet their needs, which is not easy given the current difficult situation. Limited availability can hurt companies, so the focus is now on increasing stocks.
Another idea worth highlighting is that the Pi platform’s DIY (do-it-yourself) approach does not fit with the need for waiting lists. Instead, the expectation is to get the device quickly and do it all cost-effectively. Upton also said that they want someone who wakes up in the morning wanting a Raspberry Pi to have it in their hands by 9 am the next day.
The Raspberry Pi is versatile. It can even be used to block advertisements on YouTube, for example, if the software solutions (AdBlock Plus, uBlock Origin) do not work correctly.
