God Of War: Ragnarök: No More Significant Expansion This Year

Sony Santa Monica Studio won’t touch the adventures of Kratos and Atreus between the two holidays.

God of War: Ragnarök has been on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 for nearly two months. The game has been a success with critics and gamers alike, so Sony can quickly call it a blockbuster (strange as it may seem, that’s the company’s strategy). So, of course, it will have to wait at least a year before it’s released on PC (a timeframe mentioned by former Guerrilla Games head Hermen Hulst, who heads PlayStation Studios), but by then, the New Game+ mode will be here.

The game mode, known short as NG+, has been popping up in more and more AAA games lately. The idea is that you play through the game first, then you can restart it with most of your equipment and abilities, but you have to do it on a higher difficulty level. It wasn’t part of the new God of War by default, but it’s safe to say that Santa Monica Studio has heard the demand, as the studio confirmed on Twitter that they will fill this gap in 2023.

Moreover, New Game+ is coming in the spring, so an update could arrive sometime between March and May. If the developers follow the traditions, the story will restart with our abilities, armor, weapons, and other items intact. Of course, the studio hasn’t said anything about that yet, as they won’t reveal how Kratos and his son will get the new game mode until closer to launch. Last time, God of War: Ragnarök got the photo mode (we reported on that), and a few bugs have been fixed (falling out of the map, crashing, quest progression blocking…).

Of course, we would ask whoever completes the game on the most challenging level will get the same difficulty. (There will be trophies for sure, we don’t dispute that… but how will the level of challenge change?) So it’s still worth waiting.
