TOP LIST – What games can we expect to see in the year just starting? Here are the 10 most anticipated games to be released in 2023.

 

Yesterday marked the end of a year marked by many delays, but above all by many top-quality releases. Elden Ring, Horizon, God of War, Xenoblade, Bayonetta, Monkey Island, Neon White, Norco, Tunic.

The pandemic has damaged the medium – like everything else, come on – but it seems that, albeit in small steps, our favourite hobby is taking shape. And 2022 is already shaping up to be one of the most vibrant years in gaming history (perhaps since 2017). In that case, 2023 promises to be just as good or better, at least on paper.

So it’s time to look ahead, see what’s in store and pick your favourites. Then let’s put our hype thermometer up to see what our expectations are for the new year, and which games we’re more confident in.

Of course, some of them may disappoint us. Life is like that. Or that they’ll be pushed back to 2024, although most of them are close in date and we only expect that in some cases.

Let’s be optimistic and take a look at where you’re likely to find the successors to many of last year’s classics in this year’s games.

10. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

 

Release date: 26 May.

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

What do you get when you put together a deadly sniper boomerang-wielding menace, a psychopathic psychiatrist and a giant humanoid shark?

Well, a little confusion.

If you can say that about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from the trailers. In Rocksteady Games’ action-packed DC adventure, a team of twisted supervillains team up to take down Metropolis’ finest heroes.

Corrupted by an alien invasion that has turned the Justice League against the city, the Suicide Squad must kill the Justice League. Otherwise, Amanda Waller will blow their heads off.

You can take on the unique power of this rickety team when Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is released.

 

 

9. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

 

Release date: 12 May.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Fans can once again take on the role of Link in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. The title will no doubt attract huge crowds when it launches on 12 May next year.

What we know now is little, but the world of Hyrule certainly matters. You would think that by now they would have figured out how to keep it safe.

Tears of the Kingdom will take place on the ground and above the clouds. This will create two worlds where players will discover something that has happened to get to the point where it would take place in real time.

May is still a long way off, so there’s still a lot to learn about the flagship title before its release.

 

 

8. The Wolf Among Us 2

 

Release date: 2023

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Once upon a time, there was a private detective called Bigby Wolf. The Wolf Among Us 2, out in 2023. It also packs a whole grimoire of tales.

In the original game, Bigby is as fantastic as he is dark, hunting a killer. But unfortunately, he got into a series of big trouble while protecting the residents of Fable Time.

The sequel retains all the noir-inspired world-building and grim storytelling. Instead, it offers a new thriller to be unravelled in a series of episodes. This branching choice narrative definitely puts you in the hot seat to decide the fate of the tales. So try to keep your head and the heads of those around you in one of the most anticipated games to be released in 2023.

 

 

7. Final Fantasy XVI

 

Release date: 22 June.

Platforms: 1: PlayStation 5, PC

With 15 mainline games in the series, they would have dropped the Final World a long time ago. But luckily for JRPG fans, Final Fantasy XVI continues the series of epic adventures and heartbreaking stories.

In this century, we see a beautiful land bathed in the light of mother crystals. Huge, old, beautiful markers allow those gathered there to live a life of the most magical luxury, far more powerful and aesthetic than gluing a piece of quartz to your head. But, for the record, I tried.

 

 

6. Diablo 4

 

Release date: 6 June.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Diablo 4 will be a hell of a lot of fun. It’s up to you to save the world and take on the sinister forces of Lilith.

Take on the role of a heavyweight barbarian, a shape-shifting druid, a mysterious necromancer, a clever rogue or an elemental wizard.

Hone your skills as you wipe out the evil forces besieging the shrine, explore the dark fantasy open world and even take on other players in PvP battles. If you think you’re tough enough.

You can get your angelic hands or demonic talents – I’m not judging – at the launch of Diablo 4.

 

 

5. Resident Evil 4 Remake

 

Release date: 24 March.

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC

 

Speaking of number four, survival horror fans out there will be pleased to hear that there’s more horror on the horizon in 2023. The iron shadow of Resident Evil 4 looms ever closer, and Leon S Kennedy is back to blasting zombies in the latest Resident Evil remake.

The game is set six years after the infectious chaos that decimated Raccoon City earlier this year, in a creepy European settlement where something was decidedly fishy. Leon sets out to rescue the president’s daughter and battles all manner of strange and disturbing creatures in a fight for survival.

With a reimagined story, beautifully enhanced graphics and updated gameplay, Resident Evil 4 lets you relive some of the best moments in survival horror.

 

 

4. Starfield

 

Release date: 2023

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC

It’s no secret that space is a popular playground for exploring video games, but some claim that it’s never been done very well. However, the makers of Bethesda, the Fallout games and the Elder Scrolls are set to make a huge splash in the industry once again with Starfield.

Starfield is a single-player RPG that, according to the developers, takes players into the galaxy. Suppose you’ve ever played a Bethesda game. In that case, things will feel and look familiar with story-driven dialogue, an expansive world to explore and a progression system that will determine your path through the game.

Starfield itself looks fantastic, with something for everyone. Want to customise and fly a spaceship? You can.

How about exploring exotic planets? There are about 1000 of them in the game.

Whether the company will be able to make a game of this magnitude remains to be seen. Still, it’s hard to argue that it’s not one of the most anticipated games to be released in 2023.

 

 

3. Dead Space Remake

 

Release date: 27 January.

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC

Dead Space, the stunning remake of the 2008 survival horror masterpiece, returns in 2023.

Packed with glorious encounters and terrifying monsters, Dead Space follows an engineer’s virtual rescue mission that goes very wrong. In a way that mutates everyone into fleshy, murderous monsters gone wrong.

Isaac is desperate to find his girlfriend and, armed only with mining equipment, finds himself stranded on the USG Ishimura when an alien strike takes over. He is often confronted by hordes of necromorphs emerging from the corpses of all his colleagues.

If that sounds intense, wait and see what this visually enhanced and gameplay-enhanced version has in store for 27 January 2023. Good luck!

 

 

2. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

 

Release date: 17 March.

Off to a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars Jedi Survivor, the sequel to the recently released Star Wars favourite Jedi Fallen, continues the Jedi’s journey five years after the conclusion of the first game.

Now you’re a Jedi Knight with a knack for the Force. So use your lightsaber with ruthless skill to fight in the dark reaches of the Empire and live up to your newfound knighthood as one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

 

 

1. Marvel’s Spiderman 2

 

Release date: 2023

Platforms: PS5

Coming to PS5 in 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues the journey of Peter Parker and Miles Morales as our superheroes take on powerful new adversaries.

Well, if you can tear yourself away from the joy of sleeping in Marvel New York long enough to fight them. That task becomes a little more tempting with the appearance of the infamous Venom.

We already know that Marvel Spider-Man 2 is coming to PS5 in 2023, but as the year progresses, we’ll have to keep an eye out for more details on our Spider Sense. Looking at the announcement trailer, however, it will be worth the wait.
