Star Wars: This Why George Lucas Hates Jabba the Hutt

MOVIE NEWS – Jabba the Hutt is known to be one of George Lucas’ least favorite Star Wars characters. Now we finally found out why.

Star Wars is a long-running science fiction multimedia franchise revolving around the Skywalker family, an invisible force, the Force, and a mysterious order of Force users, the Jedi. With dozens of movies, TV shows, comics, novels, and video games, the Star Wars franchise is a never-ending pit of content constantly adding new content.

Even though Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012 (according to USA Today), we can’t forget the fact that George Lucas, creator of the billion-dollar franchise, was the heart and soul of the galaxy far, far away, bringing us the movies we all love. known and loved characters. Although Lucas has since stepped back, he played a huge role in getting Star Wars to where it is today. But that doesn’t mean he wanted every single decision. Some may be surprised to learn that Lucas was not a fan of Jabba the Hutt. Here’s why.

Before Jabba the Hutt appeared as a giant slug-like creature, he was originally human. Jabba’s first appearance in A New Hope is a large, fur-wearing man who is more of a typical thug, played by Declan Mulholland. Lucas was extremely unhappy with how the scene turned out and ended up cutting it out of the film entirely. However, in 1997, a special edition of the trilogy was released in which the scene was re-inserted and replaced by Mulholland with a CGI Jabba. The scene has since been reworked several times – one of many changes to A New Hope over the years – to bring the best quality to viewers. Even though Lucas decided to reinsert the scene into the film, he has since revealed that he bounced back and forth between removing the scene again.

In Return of the Jedi, we see Jabba in all his hideous glory, surrounded by his entourage in his luxurious palace, partying like there’s no tomorrow. Jabba’s giant puppet received mixed reviews, with some loving the use of advanced puppetry to create an otherworldly creature, while others criticized the choice. Lucas was one of those who thought Jabba was a bit of a nuisance. The weight of the puppet, the half-million dollar price tag, and the fact that Jabba’s puppet required several people to operate alone made Lucas somewhat regret the decision to have a giant puppet made for the role of the thug. If CGI had been available at the time, it is safe to assume that the majestic Jabba puppet would not exist.

Jabba is the heritage of the Hutts

Jabba the Hutt is one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe, and even though his dastardly ways almost brought death to both Han and Luke, he’s still a fan favorite. Although Lucas didn’t like Jabba’s puppet, seeing such a phenomenal piece of art in action was still a sight, especially considering the limited 80s technology available at the time. While there are many things Lucas doesn’t like about Jabba, even he can’t deny the impact the thug has had on the screen.
