TECH NEWS – Microsoft could integrate ChatGPT into Bing in a few months.
The Information (via The Verge) has reported that the technology behind the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT will come to Microsoft Bing in March. The hope is that this will make Bing a little more versatile than just ranking search results.
ChatGPT is an AI-powered chatbot capable of giving what some say are almost human-like long answers to open-ended questions.
Microsoft invested more than $1 billion in the AI company OpenAI back in 2019. It seems that the tech giant is looking to leverage this investment and gain some advantage over Google in the search engine space.
OpenAI is also the company behind the DALL-E image generator, which the Redmond-based company expects to be incorporated into Bing in the future.
So how will the inclusion of the AI behind ChatGPT improve Bing? Well, you can ask ChatGPT itself to generate an answer. Here’s what it thinks about all this:
“However, it is possible that incorporating ChatGPT or similar AI technology could be used to improve the natural language processing capabilities of Bing, potentially allowing it to better understand and respond to user queries written in natural language.”
Although this is a sensible response, there are still many problems with ChatGPT. AI misses a lot of information and can be a bit problematic. According to the ChatGPT website, this is primarily to do with the fact that AI has “limited knowledge of world events after 2021.” However, even more worrying is the part that says it can “may occasionally produce harmful instructions or biased content.”
OpenAI released ChatGPT for public testing in November. Microsoft hopes to have an AI-enabled version of Bing ready by the end of March. You could be asked to come up with essays on Star Wars or compile a top ten list of the best video games. It will be interesting to see precisely how Microsoft integrates this into Bing.
