MOVIE NEWS – Justin Roiland was charged with domestic violence and false imprisonment back in May 2020.
Rick and Morty star and co-creator Justin Roiland was charged with domestic violence in Orange County, California, in a 2020 incident. The criminal complaint was filed in May 2020 by the Orange County District Attorney. Roiland appeared in court on January 12 for a pre-trial hearing. There, his attorney confirmed that a plea deal offer exists for him. However, he would not discuss the details.
The court will reconvene on April 27, and Roiland has been ordered to appear at that hearing.
NBC News reported that Roiland pleaded not guilty in the incident in 2020. The charges include domestic assault. As well as a felony count of false imprisonment by threat, force, fraud and/or deceit. A trial date has not yet been set.
Roiland was arrested and released on $50,000 bail in August 2020. He was indicted in October 2020. A protection order was filed in October 2020, stating that Roiland must not harass, threaten or observe the person named in the protection order. The identity of the person is not public. Outside of the charges, Roiland is not allowed within 100 feet of the person. He was also ordered to surrender any firearms in his possession. The order will last until October 2023. NBC also noted that Roiland and his attorneys have not commented on the case.
Rick and Morty has created a billion-dollar franchise that spans toys, video games, action figures and costumes and is one of the most popular adult television comedies.
The final season of Adult Swim aired in September 2022. And the seventh season has been ordered by Cartoon Network as part of a long-term deal for 70 new episodes.
In addition to the success of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland also released the video game High On Life at the end of 2022. This was developed through his studio Squanch Games. The game quickly became the best-selling game on Steam and the fourth-most-played Xbox game in the week of its debut.
