Rumours have started circulating online again that CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox Game Pass is a reality, but it’s not what it seems.
Rumors have started to spread again on the Internet that CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Xbox Game Pass, but fans don’t have to get their hopes up. Cyberpunk 2077 was first rumored to be coming to Xbox Game Pass last year, but nothing ever materialized.
Last February, an image appeared on the web showing Cyberpunk 2077 listed on Xbox Game Pass. This led many to speculate that the game would be coming to Microsoft’s service at some point, as accurate Xbox Game Pass leaks happen regularly. However, it’s been almost a year and Cyberpunk still hasn’t made it to the platform. This wasn’t the first time the game was rumored for Xbox Game Pass either; In another case, rumors about Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Game Pass started, but CD Projekt Red came forward to deny these reports.
Now it seems that fans have been tricked by the aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077 image that has resurfaced on the Internet. A since-deleted Reddit post shared the image and tricked Xbox Game Pass subscribers into thinking Cyberpunk 2077 was coming to the service soon, not realizing the image was old. However, since the image is almost a year old, it’s safe to say that it doesn’t indicate that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Xbox Game Pass at all. Simply put, the latest Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Game Pass rumors are based on a false assumption, so fans shouldn’t expect the open-world game to come to Microsoft’s subscription service anytime soon.
However, that doesn’t mean Cyberpunk 2077 will never come to Xbox Game Pass. CD Projekt Red is preparing to release a new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC in the form of the Phantom Liberty expansion, so perhaps it can use Game Pass strategically to get as many people as possible to buy the new content. On the other hand, CD Projekt Red plans to bundle the DLC in a Cyberpunk 2077: Game of the Year Edition bundle as well, so it might be reluctant to give you access to the base game without paying for it.
CD Projekt Red has made its games available on Xbox Game Pass before. Once upon a time, the highly successful Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could also be played through Xbox Game Pass, so it is possible that Cyberpunk 2077 could eventually be included there as well. However, fans shouldn’t take the image making the rounds online as proof that something like this is actually going to happen.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
